1. Don Quixote
Phil's Mandolin melody with Leo's chord structure; a spanish celtic instrumental, lively.
2. Play me a Song
Phil's way of satisfying those people who yell out at gigs 'play something we know!' He wrote this song, called 'play me a song we all know'. A lively folk song.
3. Little Piece of my Heart
Leo writes a love song once a year whether he wants to or not, they just come out. written for his wife. Steves' Harmonica plays a perfect hook. Catchy folk pop song.
4. Down by the River
Phil describes the river, as the flow of a relationship. Andrews violin captures the bright feel of the song.
5. La Cicada
Leo wrote this after seeing the Buena Vista Social Club(movie) Inspired by those wonderful Cuban musicians, (thanks to Ry Cooder). If you listen carefully you might hear a cicada somewhere in this track! Chosen by ABC radio, to place on Oz tracks. Cuban style instrumental.
6. The Rain
With one of the worst droughts in Australia in the last few years, Leo writes about the rain coming to purify and wash the hard times away. From the heart lifes¹ downs then ups. Cleis plays an angelic solo accompanied by her voice. A quirky gentle song.
7. Little bit Closer
Leo describes a healing process. 'getting better all the time'... Fairly catchy smooth folk tune.
8. Limbo
Phil describes a situation most of us have experienced. The end section started as an extended imrovisation at gigs,and is a space for Steve, Cleis and Leo to play a little. Guys' Bodhran sets up and maintains this hypnotic feel.
9. Rainbow Man /Bohenia Polka
Phils' nostalgic thoughts of characters and happy times, bringing up a family in the bush, near a little country town full of hippies, Nimbin ( known as The Rainbow Town) . Where the title of this album comes from. Nominated for best folk song at the Dolphin awards. Happy country folk song.
10. Something in the Air
Leos' observations -Sometimes the air just sweeps in blue times, look higher up for help. A back porch folky country feel.
11. Beating Heart
After arriving home from hospital and recovering from an operation Leo heard the news of the Bali bombing. He wrote this song sitting on the verandah, with a tear in the eye. We are all responsible. A heartfelt semi pop folk song.
12. Between the Rivers
Phil, Guy, Cleis and Leo, were asked to play a belly dance tune for a special occassion, they decided to write one instead, it became a special part of the repetoire. Fine music ties all nations together.
Acoustic guitars, tamboura, clay drum, darabuka, violin ,fretless bass. A middle eastern flavoured belly dance tune, to finish the album.
