Press Release: 'Gypsy Caravan' End of year Concert
The Romaniacs have organised an end of year concert at the Byron Bay Bowling Club on Saturday 10th. December at 8PM. They are calling the night “The Gypsy Caravan” A Concert of Dance and Music. The first half of the concert features some of the Nth. Coasts finest dancers, dancing to original tunes by the Romaniacs. Dancers featured will be Kim and Jan from Street Tango Byron, Serena Joy ~ Flamenco, Tammy and Harlie from Lismore School of Irish Dance and Tamara an exotic Belly Dancer from Brisbane. The Romaniacs are Phil Levy, Mandolin and Guitar, Leo Glass, Guitars, Julie Metcalfe, Violin and Guy Madigan, Darabukka and Percussion. They will be accompanied by very special guests Yuval Ashkar, Oud and Darabukka. Greg Lyon, Fretless Bass. Jason Miles, Flamenco Guitar. The second half will be an invitation for all the audience to kick up their heels and join the dance floor.

'Best Country/Folk Song' for 'Rainbow Man' @ 2005 Dolphin Awards
The Romaniacs were nominated for two awards at the 2005 Dolphin Awards ( North Coast Entertainment Industry---NCEIA) this year. Nominated for the best instrumental for La Cicada, ( played on national ABC, and on ABC's Oz Tracks. Also nominated for the best country / folk song, for Rainbow Man, title track on the Rainbow Town cd. We were fortunate to win the award for the best country/folk song, and came second in the instrumental section.

Leo Glass and Phil Levy formed the 'Romaniacs' with
Guy Madigan on percussion (founding member of the band Sirocco). The
resulting CD, "Wanted" received a Dolphin award (Nth. Coast
Music Awards) for best instrumental in 2004 and a nomination in 2004
for album of the year.
The Romaniacs music is inspired by Gypsy, Folk,
Latin, Celtic, and Spanish roots grooves. The second CD "Rainbow Town" is out
now. The song Rainbow Man from this CD was nominated for best folk
song at the 2004 Dolphin Awards.
The Romaniacs CD has been played on local, Mid North Coast,Darwin and New England ABC radio, Community FM stations on the North Coast of NSW and Melbourne.
The tune "Paso Fino" from the bands first CD
has been selected by the ABC's Fresh Air initiative for Radio National
and DIG internet air play in 2004. An instrumental, "La Cicada" from
the new CD has been selected for ABC Internet jukebox OzTrax.
